Finding Rest in a World That Demands More

Women of the twenty-first century are expected to spin a multitude of plates—juggling careers, motherhood, relationships, personal growth, and faith. As a result, many of us are exhausted, overwhelmed, and stretched far too thin.

A Barna study found that 72% of women feel overwhelmed by stress, and for women with children at home, that number jumps to 80%. If you’ve felt the weight of exhaustion pressing in, you’re not alone.

Stress has a way of piling up until we can no longer think clearly, enjoy life, or make decisions from a place of wisdom and peace. It robs us of our joy, dismantles our peace, and denies us hope. Stress doesn’t have the power to change tomorrow, but it surely does mess up today.

Women are more likely to experience more physical signs of stress compared to their male counterparts.

The Enemy’s Strategy: Stealing Your Peace

We have a spiritual enemy who thrives on our exhaustion. He knows that if he can keep us distracted by busyness and stress, he can steal the “abundant” life Jesus promised us (John 10:10).

But here’s the truth: You were not created to be anxious, overworked, or consumed by never-ending to-do lists. You were created for joy, peace, and eternal impact—not temporary distractions.

The enemy rarely tempts us with obvious compromise; instead, he uses subtle distractions—things that seem good but pull us away from God’s best. We fill our schedules with things that keep us busy but not fulfilled, productive but not purposeful.

But busyness is not the same as fruitfulness. Running on empty is not the life God intended for us.

God’s Antidote for Weariness

The good news is, God has given us an antidote for exhaustion. He calls us to abide in Him (John 15:4-5).

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

Strength doesn’t come from endless striving—it comes from resting in God’s presence. When we abide in Him, He fills us with the strength, wisdom, and peace we need to navigate life.

How Do We Abide in Christ?

Prioritize Time with God

Even in a busy schedule, carve out moments to be still before the Lord. Pray, read His Word, and allow Him to speak peace over you.

Say No Without Guilt

Not every opportunity is from God. Discern what aligns with His will and let go of unnecessary commitments.

Let Go of Perfectionism

You don’t have to do everything perfectly to be worthy or loved. Rest in the truth that God’s grace is enough.

Make Rest a Habit

Just as God commanded a Sabbath, we need intentional time to rest and restore. Give yourself permission to slow down.

Listen for God’s Voice

The world is loud, but God often speaks in the stillness. Find quiet moments in your day to seek His guidance.

You Were Made for More Than Stress

If you’ve been feeling exhausted, stretched thin, and overwhelmed by life’s demands, it’s time to make a change. You weren’t created for a life of stress—you were created for peace, joy, and an abundant life in Christ.

Let today be the day you choose to abide in Him. Let today be the day you take a deep breath and trust that God is in control.
