Living Beyond the Moment: Seeing the Bigger Picture in Your Life

Some seasons of life feel like a blur - like you’re running on autopilot, barely keeping up, while the days slip through your fingers. I know this because I’ve been there.

Lately, my life has felt like an endless checklist. Wake up early. Get my daughter, Phili, ready. Rush through breakfast. Work. Clean. Cook. Sleep. Repeat. I keep telling myself that if I can just get through this week, or this month, then maybe I’d finally have time to breathe. But that moment never came.

One night, as I sat in my room, exhausted, I found myself scrolling mindlessly on my phone, searching for… something. Maybe a bit of inspiration. Maybe a reminder that I wasn’t alone in this overwhelming cycle. And then I read a quote that stopped me in my tracks:

"If you’re only focused on getting through today, you’ll never build the life you actually want to live."

It hit me. Hard.

I have been living for short-term relief rather than long-term well-being. I am constantly pushing forward, thinking the next moment will magically bring clarity, peace, or rest. But I wasn’t creating the space for those things to actually exist in my life.

The Trap of Short-Term Thinking

We all do it in different ways. Some of us focus on comfort: grabbing a quick distraction, numbing the hard feelings, reaching for whatever makes the stress momentarily disappear. Others fixate on survival - doing whatever it takes just to get through the day without falling apart.

But when we only focus on the here and now, we miss what God is doing in the long term. We become so wrapped up in today’s struggles that we fail to see how He is shaping us for something greater.

It’s easy to believe that if something is difficult, it must be wrong. That if we feel overwhelmed, something must be broken. But what if the struggle isn’t a sign of failure? What if it’s actually part of the process - God refining, strengthening, and preparing us for what’s ahead?

Choosing Growth Over Quick Fixes

When life gets hard, our instinct is often to look for an escape. But true wellness(the kind that transforms us) doesn’t come from quick fixes. It comes from learning to lean into what is uncomfortable, trusting that God is working even when we can’t see the full picture yet.

So, what does that look like in everyday life?

1. Shift from Escape to Embrace

Instead of seeking distractions, lean into what your soul actually needs. Are you exhausted? Instead of pushing through, allow yourself to rest - without guilt. Are you overwhelmed? Instead of numbing with social media or mindless habits, take a deep breath, pray, and ask God what He’s trying to teach you in this moment.

2. Trust the Process (Even When You Can’t See the Outcome)

I won’t lie, sometimes trusting God’s plan feels impossible, especially when life isn’t going the way we hoped. But every challenge carries a lesson, every delay has purpose, and every closed door leads to something better. Instead of asking, Why is this happening to me? try asking, How is this happening for me? What is God building in me through this season?

3. Invest in the Things That Truly Matter

It’s so easy to chase temporary wins: the approval of others, the feeling of being productive, the illusion of having it all together. But at the end of the day, what will actually bring you peace? What will still matter in five years? Invest in the relationships, habits, and choices that nourish your soul, rather than just temporarily easing your stress.

4. Let Go of the Need for Immediate Answers

One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that God doesn’t work on my timeline. He doesn’t always give me answers right away. But looking back, I can see that the waiting, the wondering, and even the struggles were part of something much bigger. Just because you don’t have clarity yet doesn’t mean God isn’t moving.

5. Surround Yourself with People Who Lift You Higher

Wellness isn’t a solo journey. We need people who remind us of who we are, who speak life into us when we forget our own strength, and who encourage us to keep going when we feel stuck. Find a community that helps you grow—not just survive.

Wellness is About Seeing the Bigger Picture

This life isn’t just about getting through the day. It’s about becoming the person God created you to be. It’s about trusting that even in the hard moments, He is working all things together for your good.

If you’re feeling stuck, exhausted, or overwhelmed, take a deep breath and remind yourself:

You are not just surviving - you are growing. Every choice you make today is shaping the life you’ll live tomorrow. Even when you can’t see it, God is working behind the scenes.

So let’s take the pressure off of trying to have it all figured out. Let’s stop chasing quick fixes and start building lives that are rooted in purpose, peace, and long-term joy.

And if you need a space to be reminded of that—to be encouraged, to find rest, to grow alongside other women who are on the same journey—I invite you to join The Circle, our private Facebook community.

Let’s walk this path together.
